DVSA increases ATF service charge limits for HGV, bus and trailer MOT tests from July 2026
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has confirmed that Authorised Testing Facilities (ATFs) will be able to charge higher maximum service fees for heavy vehicle MOT tests from 6 July 2026.
The move affects MOT testing for buses, coaches, HGVs and trailers, with the agency stating that the changes are designed to help maintain a reliable and sustainable testing network across the UK.
New maximum service charges
From 6 July 2026, the maximum service charges ATFs can apply will increase to:
Bus and coach tests: £90 (previously £70)
HGV tests: £70 (previously £55)
Trailer tests: £50 (previously £40)
+VAT (where applicable)
Why are the charges increasing?
The maximum ATF service charge limits have remained unchanged since 2010. DVSA says the increase reflects rising operating costs and is intended to help ensure testing facilities can continue delivering reliable MOT services for commercial vehicle operators.
The agency believes the revised limits strike a balance between supporting ATFs and maintaining access to high-quality testing services across the country.
